Ingredients
Named and explained
A steel bowl of charcoal scrub, a gallon of vegetable glycerin, empty black jars, a scale and a fern on a dark walnut bench
Henderson and the Las Vegas valley at night from a desert ridge: city lights in a wide band, a winding road with light trails below, low clouds lit orange
A vanity at first light: a round mirror, jars of face cream, a small dropper bottle of golden oil, a cup of chamomile tea beside a muslin pouch for a tea bath, and a bowl of clay mask

It started with a ritual

My love of cosmetics started with my mother. Morning and night, I watched her apply her face creams.

Getting ready for the day was almost a ritual for her: meticulous, carefully cultivated, and curated to reflect her own personality and what she believed skincare should be.

At fourteen I started putting vitamin E on my face, and experimenting with tea baths and bentonite clay masks. That same year I watched Practical Magic for the first time, and I fell in love with an idea: one day, I would open a clean skincare brand of my own.

It took years of formulating and experimenting with ingredients to get here: products that really work, and that are genuinely good for your skin.

What brings me the most joy is when people can trust what they put on their skin, and know that every formula was made with intention: to be good for the skin, without ingredients I consider potentially hazardous.

Every ingredient named and explained

Every cosmetic sold in the US has to list its ingredients. We go further and explain them. Every product page shows the full list, largest amounts first, and every ingredient has its own page here: what it is, what it does, and why it's in the formula.

Most come from plants, clays, the hive and the sea. A few are made in a lab on purpose, like the synthetic mica that gives Main Character Energy its shimmer, and some of our fragrances are synthetic. We say so.

The standard

No sulfates, parabens, silicones, mineral oil, petrolatum, or FD&C and D&C dyes, in any formula. You can check every one against the labels.

Some of our fragrances are synthetic. Every fragrance is researched before we use it, and is free of known carcinogens, mutagens and organ toxicants. When a formula contains fragrance, its ingredient list says so.

'Clean' isn't a regulated word, so we say exactly what we mean by it, and what it doesn't promise.

What we hold to

  • Every ingredient named and explained.

The full ingredient list on every label and every page, and a page for each ingredient: what it is, what it does and why we use it.

  • Small batches, by hand.

Mixed in Henderson, Nevada, one formula at a time, with ingredients carefully sourced from reputable manufacturers and farms.

  • Made with intention.

We choose real ingredients, leave out what doesn't need to be there, and make products that don't pretend to be something they're not.

  • Cosmetic, honestly.

We talk about how skin looks and feels, and we don't promise more than a formula can do.
