Origin
FungalA mushroom, Grifola frondosa, marked organic (*) on Shroom Therapy's ingredient list.
Species
Grifola frondosa
Also called
Hen of the woods

What it is

Maitake grows in large, ruffled clusters at the base of trees, which is why it is also called hen of the woods. The list names its species as Grifola frondosa.

What it does

It is one of the 25 mushrooms in Shroom Therapy. Maitake is one of the richest natural sources of ergothioneine, an antioxidant. Like all mushrooms, it contains beta-glucans, sugars that hold water, which add to the mask's soft feel.

Why it’s clean

Named on the list with its species, Grifola frondosa, and marked organic. One clearly named ingredient, not a blend name.

Found in

One formula.

Labels list ingredients from most to least, so where maitake sits gives a rough idea of how much is in the formula.
